Like Coolest-Gadgets.com says, this one looks more like a ray gun, than a camcorder.

The Sanyo DMX-HD1000, to be floated in the markets in mid-September, is supposed to be the smallest and lightest by volume.

A part of the Xacti solid-state camera series, this camcorder shoots video at 1080p Full HD resolution(1920 x 1080) using the HD/MPEG-4 AVC codec. It offers a 10X optical zoom and can shoot around 80-90 minutes of 1080p video on a 8GB SD card. It’s features a 1/2.5 inches CMOS sensor, a 2.7″ pop-out LCD, 2 hour battery life, a pop-up flash and a HDMI-out. Video modes of the camcorder include:

  • HD 1920X1080 @ 60 fps
  • HD-HR 1280X720 @ 60 fps
  • HD-SHQ 1280X720 @ 30 fps
  • TV-HR 640X480 @ 60 fps
  • TV-SHQ 640X480 @ 30 fps
  • Web-SHQ 320X240 @ 30 fps

Coming to still photography, it can shoot pictures at upto 8 MegaPixels and ISO speeds upto 3200.

Available in two elegant colors, viz. black & silver, what makes it interesting is that it has face recognition features that can recognise upto 12 faces, a new Xacti Library function that enables simple playback and saving of movies & photos and as per Sanyo’s claim, a new ‘ergonomic sytem’ that prevents tiredness due to usage.

Sanyo plans to initially produce 15K global units monthly & the price has not yet been announced. Speculations point out that it is going to be initially available in Japan only and the opening price is going to be $1000, so if you are planning to trip Japan in the immediate future, consider putting this on your shopping list. ;)
